About the Artist

OAKLEY HENRY

From a quiet, introverted world and place, I started on a journey of self-discovery using art to express my fears, hopes and thoughts. The images I created, whilst initially dark, intricately lined freehand work, eventually evolved into vibrant, colourful artwork often using symmetry and thought provoking themes to bring the art to life.

Whilst navigating through these areas of mental health, self reflection and personal growth, I found that art is a means of self-expression which is as
healing as it is creative
.

Encouraged to create what has become my signature piece, 'Epitome', (BBC TV Centre display), I started introducing colours using different mediums on canvas lifting my art to a new level. Adding colour to previous works through digitisation, as well as on new artwork, changed the dynamics of the art process which I find very rewarding and enjoyable.

From the simple image of 'Carl, the Original' (see below) to the more complex 'Mask' and colourful 'Melting Health', I am drawn to create fantastical themes, strange creatures, intricate patterns and surreal narratives. These are all examples of art which offer a glimpse into my mindscape.

I want my artwork to show people that it is OK to talk about their feelings, to express their hopes, fears and anxieties in a positive and transformative way.

My art is my therapy

It is so important to look at your thoughts, your thinking because they can become your reality and understanding what these thoughts say to you is so important. I strongly believe that everyone will take away from my art thoughts and ideas meaningful to them.

I invite and encourage you to start your own creative journey of healing and growth through art and in doing so, explore the fantastic realm of your own emotional mindscape.
